Faith Miltmore was born in Nyack, New York on March 4, 1916 to Dean Miltmore, a physician, and Ruth Demarest Miltmore. She attended Nyack Public High School before entering Mount Holyoke College in 1933. She majored in psychology and graduated in 1937. On November 25, 1937 she married David B. Clooney, a salesman.
